HE is the son of a crocodile hunter with a soft spot for dinosaurs.
Just don’t call him Baby Bob anymore, because the baby is all grown up.
Reptile-loving Robert Irwin yesterday declared it "a day of dinosaurs" at Australia Zoo to celebrate his 8th birthday, with family, friends and fans joining in the party.
Robert hammed it up for the crowds, and tackled the task of blowing out the candles on his "awesome cake" with all the enthusiasm of his late father, Steve Irwin.
The zoo’s chip-off-the-old block told The Courier Mail the next 12 months would be big.
"I am hoping to save even more animals at our wildlife hospital and continue to fight to save the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve in Cape York from being strip mined," he said.
He also has been saving up to buy the cast of an Australovenator clawed hand and gearing up for the first annual Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Readathon.
Mum Tern gushed about Robert, the "joy" of her heart, who is the spitting image of his dad. "I am so proud of Robert," Mrs Irwin said.
"He loves learning more about wildlife and wild places and has the same determination as Steve did, to make the world a better place."
Mrs Irwin said Robert’s cheeky personality, super excited mannerisms and animal anecdotes kept her and daughter Bindi entertained.
"Robert is definitely his own person," she said.
"He already has an incredible sense of humour.
"He just filmed a new clip for our Crocoseum Big Screen and does a hilarious take-off of Sir David Attenborough."
