Kids Zoo
Welcome to Kids Zoo - where you can see our baby farm animals, calves, lambs, kids and piglets. At any one time there are anything from 24-35 baby animals in our care, with an average of 3 staff and one or two volunteers to clean and care for them all. Caring for all these babies , as you can imagine, there's always a lot of cleaning up to do! Volunteers are invaluable in this department as they are the ones who get the animals out on the grass for a walk and graze in the sun.
Our animals love all the visitors who come and give them a pat or hand feed them farm food or a bottle of milk. Kids Zoo is a firm favourite with young children who can have a real hands-on experience with these gentle, trusting animals, and for many of them, its their first such contact. That's not to say our older visitors don't enjoy Kids Zoo - for many of them the experience brings back happy memories of life back on the farm.
When the animals have spent some time in Kids Zoo growing up, they head on back to the farm to graze in the paddock.

Always having wanted to work with animals, Kate took the opportunity of moving from Victoria to Queensland to take a different career path. So the change was made, from many years as a Montessori pre-school teacher to baby animal carer!
What a great combination - working with animals and still lots of contact with young children. There is always heaps to do ... baby animals to feed or wash or cuddle, and little children to talk with about the animals, Kids Zoo is a busy place and a great place to work!

If any one thing has ever been completely constant in Barbara's life, it has been her immense love of animals of every kind. What began as a childhood fascination in all living creatures has grown into a great passion for wildlife and conservation, and she is thrilled to be identified amongst the Australia Zoo keeper team. From being surrounded by a menagerie of pets that has included all manner of feathers, fur and scales, Barbara went on to study Zoology and Wildlife Biology through a Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland.
In her spare time, Barbara tries to cram in as many hobbies as she can... drawing and painting, photography, playing the piano, sword fighting, and of course hanging out with her own animals. She has a huge passion for canines of all kinds (African wild dogs, dingoes, wolves, jackals, foxes...) Barbara really hopes she gets the opportunity to work with them in the future, especially as the Zoo expands.

Having previously worked for 5 years in the hospitality industry Elyse jumped at the chance to land her dream job in our Koalas crew in November 2012. She now works in our Exotics department.
Elyse absolutely adores animals and wants to save them all. One of the most rewarding parts of her job is educating our guests about the personality traits of the gorgeous animals she gets to work with each and everyday.

A job at Australia Zoo is more than a vocation, it's a lifestyle - just ask any of our team members. Australia Zoo employees love animals and conservation, have an exceptional self-drive attitude towards work and of course, wear the world famous khaki uniforms with pride! You just have to walk around the Zoo to feel the electricity in the air. The atmosphere creates an exciting experience for all visitors and a dream workplace environment for all employees.
