Head of Department
Luke started at the Zoo in January 2007 working with our koalas. After Luke had finished high school he joined our Roving department where he worked with a huge variety of animals, but quickly fell in love with one group in particular, the mammals. So, when a spot in the Elephant team became available, Luke jumped at the chance to work with the Zoo's largest residents.
Luke's favourite part of the job is being a member of an elephant herd and developing relationships with these magnificent animals, as well as promoting their conservation in Asia to protect the species!
Haylee previously worked in the retail industry but soon realised that working with animals was her calling and began volunteering at the zoo in 2010. When a position in our koala team became available Haylee jumped at the chance to join our team in September 2011.
Which is lucky, as koalas are Haylee's favourite animal because they are so cute and there is always something new to learn about them. And when Haylee isn't with the koalas, she is helping out our elephants crew with our gorgeous girls Siam, Sabu and little Bimbo.
Australia Zoo is the perfect working environment for Haylee as she loves the outdoors, she enjoys making a difference through contributing to the zoo many conservation projects and there is never a dull moment working with animals.
When not at the zoo Haylee enjoys going to the beach to surf and to swim.
Lachlan started at Australia Zoo as a School Based Trainee when he was 15 years old (which wasn't that long ago) After Lachlan finished his traineeship he jumped at the chance to be a part of our education department, but his heart was always set on joining an animal keeping department.
It wasn't long before Lachlan found himself helping take care of our Native Mammals and Birds, and a few years down the track, Lachlan has joined the best team of all (in our eyes anyway) The Elephant Team and It didn't take long for Lachlan to fall in love with our elephants.
Lachlan has travelled throughout Africa where he first hand saw how much pressure is put on these majestic animals, and he is now grateful to be helping in the race to save them, he also has a bit of a soft spot for the two Red Pandas we also take care of.
Outside of work Lachlan is a passionate wildlife photographer, often travelling to extreme places to photograph wildlife.
Gypsy works across the zoo, skilled in most areas and departments but she loves nothing more than to spend her day hanging out with the Elephants and Red Pandas.
Gypsy is a passionate animal lover and goes out of her way to make the lives of our animals that extra bit special!
If Gypsy isn't walking a wombat, playing with an elephant or laughing with a kookaburra, you'll find her surfing, hugging a tree or hanging out at home with her Lorikeet, Fin.
With thousands of visitors from all over the world passing through the gates daily, all team members understand the importance of making a lasting impression to our patrons.
