The building services team handles everything from metal fabrication, fencing, landscaping, sculpture and design, painting, plumbing, earth moving, you name it we do it. These blokes do great work and have a great time doing it. The Building Services team is split into several groups.
Building Services ManagerBeing a qualified Chippy and having worked in the trade industry for over several years, Mark sure has the qualifications to be able to lead one of the most exciting and busy departments in the zoo. Overseeing and coordinating all of the zoo's new expansions, helping us to achieve our dream of becoming Australia's No 1 tourist attraction. Still when the deadline is approaching can catch him on the end of a shovel or with a drill in his hand. We don't know what we would do without him. When Mark manages to get a day off he enjoys chilling our fishing and listening to country music and spending time with his wife, family and two beautiful daughters, Ashley and Meg.
Joining the Grounds crew in July 2006, Neil has had time to find his feet in the Zoo. Originally starting off mowing and assisting with the animal enclosures, Neil decided he prefers the hard yards with the Big Bad Grounds boys at the shed... Hence his nickname BUBBA.
Neil’s favorite animals are the Tigers and in his spare time he likes spending time with his son and daughter and bringing home some fresh fish for dinner after a successful day out fishing.
StoresKeith is our logistics co-ordinator. What does that involve, you ask? Keith runs around all over town getting gear for the zoo. He could travel to the Gold Coast in the morning and to Noosa in the afternoon, a round trip of about 500km. Keith has been with us for a while now, but he is originally a plumber by trade and even ran his own concrete pump for a while. Keith's interests include swimming and golf.
Building Services Supervisor'Two Litre' (Steve) is a chippy here at the Zoo and is doing a great job. He's certainly a bit of a larrikin and loves a good joke. Born in England, Steve moved to Australia while still a young fella so we don't hold it against him. Being an ex-pat Englishman he likes his cricket but loves that strange game he calls football (soccer).
Scott started at Australia Zoo in September 2008, and just to prove his motto 'you can teach old dogs new tricks' he came to us with a background of a qualified welder and cycle mechanic. Having always loved animals it is no surprise that Scott jumped at the opportunity to become a member of the Zoo's artistic team, and that at home Scott has multiple pets including dogs, goats a horse and a cat! Scott enjoys his time off like most of the boys do; fishing, camping and boating.
Wayne moved up from Sydney and started at Australia Zoo in April 2007. With a background in Maintenance at the Sydney Casino, Wayne is used to the busy schedule and is always happy to help out everyone. At the Zoo his skills sure come in handy. On his time off Wayne enjoys spending time with this family and his 3 year old son, weather it be down at the beach or in the bush where he enjoys mountain bike riding.
Robert, better known as Bangles, arrived at the Zoo in May 2007. Whilse most of his time is spent trying to stay out of mischief, Bangles enjoys working with the other boys in construction and likes the variety of the job. Never knowing what will be next, he is always up for a challenge and would like to experience as many different jobs at the Zoo as he can.
Bangles enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and two sons, with the odd game of golf thrown in when time allows.
Bill joined the Zoo accounts team in 2004 coming from a banking background, and since then, has seen the Zoo expand immensely. In March 2014, Bill moved into the Building Team as Stores Coordinator.
When not collating figures at his desk during the day, Bill enjoys visiting the bird aviary and small clawed asian otters where you can enjoy close interaction with the animals.
When the weekend arrives he enjoys keeping an eye on all the weekend sporting events especially the Rugby League and MotoGP.
Stephen joined the Building Crew in March 2014. Stephen is keen to get involved in all things to do with helping the Zoo achieve its goal to be the No.1 Zoological destination in the world. One of Stephens amazing animal experiences was fishing in the Gulf in boats smaller than the crocodiles!!
Outside of the Zoo, Stephen enjoys surfing, camping, and spending time with his family.
