Many companies believe that happy staff equate to happy customers and this in turn, leads to repeat business and better profits. Our staff at Australia Zoo, are passionate and have a 'can-do attitude'. They portray our company's global goal of 'exciting conservation through education'. The Human Resources Department will serve to develop staff and management with the environment and tools to achieve this. We will be striving for fairness and consistency, whilst giving individuals opportunities to be challenged and to reach their maximum potential.
Working with the Human Resources team is always challenging but no matter what we are faced with, our teams' enthusiasm is contagious! The key to success in such a serious role is keeping it real and making it fun - which is a characteristic of this team that comes easy!

Sandy has been a part of the Zoo crew since 2001. Prior to working at Australia Zoo, Sandy worked in both government and private sectors with experience and skills from retail/tourism/hospitality, Qld Education deaprtment/teaching, and for the previous 10yrs or so in employment and training field. When Sandy was a part of the gevernment network, she assisted the Zoo with their recruitment and immediately knew that she wanted to join the "Zoo family". Her favourite creatures are "Humans". However, it is worth noting that she thinks that the Wombats at the Zoo are far cuter and have got the best of everything!!! Sandy loves all sports and in her leisure/spare time you will find her at Yoga, running 5-10km fun runs, going to the gym and even sometimes boxing classes.
Training & Trainee Manager
Jess joined our 'zoo crew' in July 2007 originally in our Admissions team before transferring to HR in December of the same year. She began her HR career as an administrative assistant before focusing on internal training and traineeships.
Jess has always had a passion for teaching and had been in Japan the year before she joined our crew teaching english. Working and studying hard over the past few years, Jess has now completed 4 qualifications through traineeships with TAFE and is currently the Manager of Training and Traineeship at Australia Zoo since June 2011.
Jess spends her days ensuring that our staff have the very best learning and development opportunities available to them including both internal and external training.
Melissa joined the HR girls in January 2012. Mel is passionate about animals so when the WH&S vacancy job came up, and with her previous experince in the field, she knew she had to work here.
The message of conservation and animal protection that is portrayed by Australia Zoo is second to none and one of the many reasons Mel is proud to be a part of the 'zoo crew'.
Melissa has great variety in her job role and loves being part of the education of people in the Zoo's message. She says "the feeling that you are doing your little bit to help - it's all about satisfaction in coming to work and doing your job every day".
Of all the incredible animals here at Australia Zoo, big and small, her favourite has always been the otters. They are a very under rated animal and they are cute, cheeky, intelligent, playful and seem to do certain behaviours just for the sheer enjoyment of it. A pleasure to sit and watch for a while.
Melissa loves open spaces so when she is not at work Mel can be found in the great outdoors.
