Education/Volunteers
Welcome to Australia Zoo's Education Department. We are a small but very dedicated group who are active in fulfilling the Australia Zoo motto, CONSERVATION THROUGH EXCITING EDUCATION. We are committed to taking the message of conservation to the hundreds of groups that come through the Zoo looking to learn more.

In an incredible evolutionary leap, Myndee the dingo has developed selective hearing when it comes to Nick's joke-telling
Nick
Education Officer
Nick heads up the Education Department. He has a fondness for animals and nature that stretches right back to his childhood, when he made animal noises before he learned to speak proper words. Imagine the disappointment of his moo... I mean, mum.
Before coming to Australia Zoo, Nick worked as a high school biology teacher, sharing his love of the natural world. During this time he was fortunate enough to travel, teaching overseas and visiting many zoos abroad. It was during these years that he resolved to find a way into the industry himself.
Nick started, as many do, at the Zoo as a volunteer. He loved working with the koalas and with exotic mammals, and always fancied himself becoming a keeper. Being a big fan of the great apes, he was actually hoping to one day get to work with the long awaited orangutans.
However fate played her hand, as she inevitably does, and Nick was offered a job in the Education Department. This proved to be the perfect blend of his interests - animals, and showing off what he knows about them to others, particularly kids. So... he gets to work with apes after all.
Stacey
Volunteers Coordinator
Stacey joined the Australia Zoo crew as a Volunteer Coordinator in January 2012 after spending 18 years as an educator specialising in environmental excursion experiences for children.
She enjoys working with volunteers who are excellent people with a passion for helping both animals and people. Her favourite animal at the Zoo are the wombats as they are hardworking, social animals in the wild and they look cool particularly when they walk.
When she is not at work, Stacey spends her time sailing, gardening, reading and cooking. She has had many opportunities to experience Australian native animals in their native locales but there is nothing quite like watching Tooth billed Cat birds prepare their bowers.
The Departments
With thousands of visitors from all over the world passing through the gates daily, all team members understand the importance of making a lasting impression to our patrons. A job at Australia Zoo is more than a vocation, it's a lifestyle - just ask any of our team members. Australia Zoo employees love animals and conservation, have an exceptional self-drive attitude towards work and of course, wear the world famous khaki uniforms with pride! You just have to walk around the Zoo to feel the electricity in the air. The atmosphere creates an exciting experience for all visitors and a dream workplace environment for all employees.
