Our beautiful Sumatran tiger cubs Hunter and Clarence stole the show at The Gabba last Monday, when the Irwin family announced their new ambassadorship with the Brisbane Lions AFL team.
A plethora of media watched on as Terri, Bindi and Robert proudly joined the cubs in kicking the footy around with Australia Zoo's newest Wildlife Warriors at their Brisbane home ground.
Pearce Hanley, Dayne Zorko, Matthew Leuenberger and Zac O'Brien proudly sported khaki shirts and mingled with April the koala, Dame the echidna and Midnight the beautiful black-headed python. Bindi, Terri and Robert were also presented with personalised Lions jerseys.
Hunter and Clarence were particularly special guests at the launch, as their births here at Australia Zoo are a huge win for the species - with less that 500 Sumatran tigers left in the wild. Born to a mother of wild blood, Kaitlyn, they are considered to be incredibly genetically valuable.
Through the Brisbane Lion's partnership, Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors hope to build awareness of our incredible conservation projects, including tiger conservation in Sumatra, and our 24-hours, 7 days a week Wildlife Hospital next to Australia Zoo, at Beerwah on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
Australia Zoo are so excited to have the Brisbane Lions on board embracing our work, and we're all eager to learn more about the beaut game of AFL while we are at it!
While there didn't appear to be much rivalry between the Lions and our own tigers, we can expect some on April 17 when the Brisbane Lions vs the Richmond Tigers at The Gabba. Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors will be official match day sponsor of the game and are prepared to see some healthy competition between the teams!
