Pixie was the first Rainbow Lorikeet to be born at Australia Zoo in 2010, from parents Starburst and Pez. With her beautiful nature, she has quickly become one of the favourites for getting scratches and cuddles from all the Bird Show keepers.
Once Pixie was fully fledged and showed us she was ready to fly, she was moved to the Crocoseum aviary where she joined our current performing lorikeet flock and began her free flight training. Within a couple of weeks Pixie was proving to everyone that she was not just a pretty face, completing long fist to fist flights and executing hatch releases out of her aviary.
Just recently, we started to introduce Pixie to flying outside the Crocoseum arena. She is doing great, although occasionally she gets a little too excited, ending up on the arm of one of the other Zoo staff members.
Pixie has proven to be a quick learner and will be the thirteenth member of the lorikeet team. Our lorikeets steal the show on a regular basis with their outgoing antics and are always out to impress the crowd with their acrobatic displays.
We have no doubt Pixie will be a star and speeding around the Crocoseum very soon.
Come on down to Australia Zoo and see our beautiful Rainbow Lorikeets race around the Crocoseum in the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Show!

What a truly beautiful bird. Nature never ceases to amaze me and I guess it never will. Its colouring is amazingly beautiful (if I didn't know better I would think it is a painting by numbers picture). I've been watching wildlife programmes all my life (over 50 years) and I learn something new and amazing nearly every day. Koalas, sharks and octopus' are some of my favourites, oh, and Cockatoos (just in case Occa reads this). A wonderful website; learning something new every day. Pixie, you're a beauty. Love to all, Gail xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
