It's not just our rock-n-roll star Bindi celebrating her birthday this month! In the lead up to Bindi's 13th Rock-n-Roll Birthday on Sunday 24 July, Australia Zoo tiger keepers are still cleaning the cake off the windows from a very different kind of birthday party held at the Australia Zoo Tiger Temple yesterday.
Some cheeky big cats were not prepared to sit back and let Bindi have all the birthday fun this July here at Australia Zoo! Charlie, Sunita and Mika, our three Bengal tiger siblings, celebrated their fourth birthday in style with what every four year old wants for their birthday...ice cream cake - a very special birthday present which had these three critically endangered animals buzzing with excitement!
Australia Zoo's Big Cat Supervisor and Conservation Manager, Giles Clark was in clean up mode after the messy birthday party.
"The clean up was to be expected I guess, four year old children get excited on their birthday so we were prepared for three excited Bengal tigers celebrating their birthday with one of their favourite treats, ice cream cake." Charlie, Sunita and Mika are critically endangered Bengal Tigers and have called Australia Zoo home since they were only four weeks of age and have celebrated their birthday's with us ever since.
Australia Zoo is dedicated to helping save tigers in the wild; with less than 5,000 tigers remaining in the wild today (and less that 400 Sumatran tigers), it is a very real possibility that the tiger will become extinct in our lifetime. Therefore conservation of these beautiful, awe-inspiring animals is now more critical than ever.
"Australia Zoo is leading the way in tiger conservation, with over a quarter of a million dollars donated to tiger conservation projects each year, educational programs and ongoing support offered to organisations and programs in the field," said Giles.
"What people often don't realise is that funds raised through animal encounters here at Australia Zoo go back into conservation. So we are able to donate around a quarter of a million dollars to tiger conservation each year because people come and enjoy a Tiger Walk or Tiger Photo, or purchase a tiger paw print."

Im so glad the Sumatran Tigers enjoyed their birthday and their cake, and Happy Birthday to Bindi too, and Australia Zoo rocks!

I love reading everything that goes on at Australia Zoo, I'm a huge fan of Steve Irwin,Terri,Bindi,and Robert I've never missed one episode. I could watch him all day long and never be bored. Steve lives on in everyone that works hard at Austalia Zoo through passion, love of all the animals, and conservation. GOOD ON YOU ALL MATES! You are all doing a wonderful job. I plan to save up and visit Australia Zoo with my girls.
