Australia Zoo celebrates first birthday of Africa exhibit these school holidays!
A birthday bash of epic proportions will be held at Australia Zoo throughout the September school holidays, celebrating the first anniversary of our newest and largest exhibit - AFRICA!
It's exactly one year to the day since the 24 acre multi-species exhibit opened, offering guests the opportunity to see the only giraffe, zebra and active breeding herd of rhinos in Queensland.
Terri Irwin said highlights of the past year included the arrival of new cheetah cubs and first birthday of baby rhino Savannah.
"It's been such a fantastic year for Africa at Australia Zoo! We've had the arrival of our two new cheetah cubs, Josh and William, all the way from South Africa, as well as the first birthday of our gorgeous little baby rhino, Savannah," Terri said.
"We're also very excited about our two pregnant rhino mothers! Inyeti is expecting her first calf, and Caballe will give birth to a new little brother or sister for Savannah."
With a gestation period of about 16 months, the double pitter-patter of baby rhino feet is expected early next year.
Another highlight in the first year was the Africa walking track which opened at Christmas 2011.
Some of the awesome Africa-themed activities happening these school holidays include free African animals mask workshops every day, as well as free African drumming workshops on weekends and a performance by the Watoto Children's Choir on Friday 28 September.
Bindi will also be performing for the first time since 2010 with a brand new show daily* in the Crocoseum, followed by Terri, Bindi and Robert feeding the crocs!
Bindi's Bootcamp playground has also opened in time for the September School Holidays. Inspired by the set constructed for the TV series 'Bindi's Bootcamp', the new playground has stacks of awesome features including a ripper rock climbing wall and heaps of gooey, scaly, interactive games to play and challenges to complete.
Why not also try your luck in our silent auctions, colouring competition, free face painting, and major prize draw.
It's all happening these school holidays at Australia Zoo - as WILD as AFRICA gets!
*Except Friday 28 September - On Friday 28 September Terri, Bindi and Robert will autograph Bindi's two new books for the first 100 guests on the day.

Haven't been for about 8 and a half years, last time being just after my son got out of the burns unit in Brisbane. I now have a 4yr old who would love to go so may just have to pack them up and head down that way for a visit. The new exhibits sound amazingly fun. Happy Birthday and good luck with everything you are an amazing family.
