A prehistoric SuperCroc was unveiled at Australia Zoo today as part of the dinosaur-themed celebrations for Robert Irwin's 9th birthday.

Weighing over five tonnes and measuring 13 metres long, the gigantic model Sarcosuchus imperator was Robert's birthday surprise.

"It's so awesome; I really, really like it and I love its teeth! I have gotten a lot of presents, but I think this is definitely one of the best!" Robert said.

"Today is just going to be the most awesome day ever."

The enormous prehistoric crocodilian sculpture took five weeks to complete by Australia Zoo artist Cameron Chapman.

"You have to work with the speed of the concrete," Cameron said.

"As it goes off you've got to carve it and get it done."

Birthday boy Robert, our very own ‘dinosaur hunter', was involved with the details and design specifications of the SuperCroc but until today was yet to see the end result.

"I've been waiting and waiting like, ‘when do I get to see it?!'" Robert said.

Other special dinosaur-themed activities around the Zoo included roaming ERTH dinosaurs, paleontologist and fossil displays as well as a giant inflatable Jurassic obstacle course.

Robert's ninth year is gearing up to be a big one, with the launch of his very own book series Robert Irwin: Dinosaur Hunter set for March 2013.

On the silver screen, Robert is also up for his very first TV Week Logie Award, being nominated for Most Popular New Male Talent.

Terri and Bindi have also been nominated for Most Popular Television Presenters, and the Zoo's new documentary Steve Irwin's Wildlife Warriors has been nominated for Best Factual Program.
