On Friday March 28, Australia Zoo staff converged on Suncity Tenpin to knock down a few pins and raise funds for Cassowary conservation.
Organised by Australia Zoo's very own POUNCE (Profits Only Used for Needy Conservation Efforts) team, 'Bowling for Cassowaries' attracted over 80 staff and their families all playing to win!
Competition was fierce but nothing could stop fiery team the 'Zoo Crew' as they bowled there way to victory! With a cumulative score of 490, the unbeatable team included Rowena (Shuttle), John (Buses), Jason (Customer Service) and Hannah (Admissions). Well done team!
Competition aside, it was a fantastic night which raised nearly $600 for the Southern Cassowary.
The Southern Cassowary is the largest native herbivore in the Australian rainforests. It is seen as the flagship species for the conservation of Wet Tropics rainforest conservation and attracts regional, national and international attention as a unique and impressive bird. Sadly, due to extensive habitat destruction, the Cassowary is classified as endangered with only 1200 individuals left in Australia.
