Terri Irwin has been recognised for her outstanding leadership at the Queensland Management Excellence Awards, being named Owner Manager of the Year for the Sunshine Coast region at an awards ceremony held last night.
As owner and director of Australia Zoo, and Patron of Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, Terri was honoured for her leadership and management style, the role she has played in the growth of her business, commitment to mentoring and other leadership activities, and communication of the vision, mission and goals of Australia Zoo.
"I'm so honoured to receive this award in my home region of the Sunshine Coast," said Terri after receiving the award.
"Steve and I shared a vision of becoming the ultimate, global zoological destination right here on the Sunshine Coast, and every day I continue to work at growing this vision into reality."
Under Terri's leadership and direction, Australia Zoo has grown into a world-class facility and leader in conservation, and has been widely recognised throughout the tourism industry, taking out Major Tourist Attraction at the Queensland and Australian Tourism Awards, and being inducted into the Queensland Tourism Hall of Fame.
"The growth and development of Australia Zoo is without a doubt my biggest business and career achievement to date," said Terri.
Celebrating our 40th Anniversary this year, Australia Zoo has grown from a four acre reptile park into an impressive seventy acre world-class facility, home to over 1,000 animals and employing over 600 staff. The community benefit on the Sunshine Coast from the operations of Australia Zoo is in the order of $86 - 130 million annually.
"The success of Australia Zoo could not be accomplished without the excellent team onboard at Australia Zoo."
Terri will now progress to the Queensland Management Excellence Awards state finals, to be held in Brisbane in November.
