Ester and Delilah, Australia Zoo's eighteen month old camels got a new home for Christmas! Now everyone can come and visit.
Ester and Delilah are now living in the Outback Orange Territory at Australia Zoo (across the way from Kids Zoo) in a ripper of an enclosure, complete not only with the camel necessities, but also you-beaut toys like barrels and balls!
When you come and meet the girls, you can tell them apart by Ester's distinctive, gorgeous curly coat. She is a real character and is guaranteed to be close on the heels of any keeper, hoping for that extra bit of attention. Delilah on the other hand is a real little lady. She is very gentle and trusting by nature and your heart will just melt when you see those beautiful dark eyes.
The lead up to having our camels on display, getting their enclosure ready and moving the girls, has been an exciting time at Australia Zoo. While Zoo Crew were busy preparing their new home, Ester and Delilah were out the back of the Zoo getting to know their keepers and learning tricks, like getting onto a horse float.
As you can imagine, getting two rather big babies into a small space like a horse float, so they could be moved to their new home, was not easy. Their keepers worked with them over several weeks, carefully and patiently teaching them, but when moving day finally arrived, the girls were led onto the float without a problem. We couldn't have been more proud of them!
Both girls were very excited when they were let out into their new home and really put on a turn, they went for an enthusiastic gallop around their yard.
So come on down to Australia Zoo and say a big Merry Christmas to Ester and Delilah, then launch into the fun as we celebrate Summer Down Under!
