4 March 2011
Bonnie and Maria, two of Australia Zoo's gorgeous Asian Small-clawed Otters will celebrate their birthday on 4 March 2011.
These girls are sisters and joined our Zoo family back in 1999, at only one year of age. But don't let their age fool you, both girls are as cheeky as ever!
Normally otters in the wild would only live to about ten years of age, however with the five star luxury Australia Zoo resort-style living that Bonnie and Maria are in, we are certain they have many good and cheeky years ahead of them.
Bonnie and Maria were lucky enough to be introduced to a new friend late last year, her name is Rosie. Rosie is six years of age, a little younger that Bonnie and Maria, but she is a bit bigger and has taken over the leadership role. Bonnie and Maria don't seem to mind this too much, so long as they all get their fair share of fish.
You can come and see our beautiful girls and their antics in our Morning Otters Live! Show, which is one of our many free shows included as part of your entry into Australia Zoo. When you come to visit, see if you can identify which otter is which. Bonnie has a small white spot in the middle of her back and Maria's fur is much whiter on her chest.
Bonnie and Maria are sure to be spoilt by their keepers today, receiving their favourite foods of fish, corn and insects. Spoilt!
Want to play an important part in the life of Bonnie and Maria? These two beautiful Otters are available for adoption... check it out
