Australia Zoo's four resident cheetah have had a sneaky first peek at the plains of our new savannah in time for the opening of Africa in September.
Cleo, Foxy, Sheeba and Echo checked out their new neighbours in what is set to become Australia Zoo's largest exhibit, including rhinos and Queensland's only giraffes and zebras. Head of Africa, Manu Ludden, said the cheetah are thrilled with the new surroundings. "The cats are amazed at the new sights and smells of the savannah," Manu said. "Cleo in particular is very curious, exploring every inch of the new area. She is especially pleased with the watering hole and African Boabab tree!"
Stage One of Australia Zoo's Africa development plans will give visitors the opportunity to watch the animals interacting in the only multi-species African exhibit in Queensland from the comfort of our Safari Shuttle.
Queensland residents! Purchase your tickets online and visit before 31 August for your Africa Adventure Pass - unlimited entry until Christmas to Australia Zoo and our new African Safari opening September 2011! Crikey!
These Cheetahs look like they can't believe their luck. In fact, in the top photo it actually looks like one of them is saying to the other, "Crikey, am I dreaming mate or is all this really ours?" What a wonderful experience this is going to be for humans and animals alike. Looking at these photos, if I didn't know better, they could have been taken in Africa. A mini Africa in your back garden; how wonderful is that? xxx
