Lola the Baby Platypus - 18th January 2013
Age: Juvenile Sex: Female Weight: 330g
Found: Emaciated at Eumundi, with no sign of her parents nearby.
Transported to: The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital by a concerned member of the public.
Veterinary Assessment: Dr Bec found Lola to be dehydrated and with signs of infection. No ticks were present, and Lola was alert and responsive.
Treatment: Lola was prescribed antibiotics and fluids, and stayed in care under close observation. She loved her swims and ate lots of mealworms and earthworms, which aided her quick recovery.
Outcome: Lola was released back into the wild after three days in care at the Hospital.
AZWH Fact: Lola is our fourth platypus admitted to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital so far this year! Recent hot weather has had these monotremes on the move.
