Welcome our newest – and tallest - babies to the family!
Australia Zoo is thrilled to welcome two new beautiful female giraffe babies to the family! Tulip - born on July 10 to first-time mother Sally, and Lily - born August 7 to Penny, also a first-time mum, are now on display on our African Savannah with the rest of the giraffe herd these Spring school holidays!
Forrest, our token male giraffe, is the father of both these new babies. He became a first-time father in October last year when Rosie gave birth to Skye.
As Skye nears one year of age, Australia Zoo’s breeding program continues to prove successful as we are hopeful Rosie is pregnant again.
Skye will have to wait until a little later this year to share our African Savannah exhibit with her new half-siblings. But they won’t be such “little” brothers or sisters, standing close to 2 metres at birth and walking around within the first hour of being born!
Australia Zoo’s giraffe pregnancies mark a successful breeding program. With only 80,000 giraffe left in the wild – these beautiful babies provide countless reasons for Australia Zoo to celebrate.
