Australia Zoo’s giraffe family is growing!

Australia Zoo was thrilled to welcome two new beautiful female giraffe babies to the family recently. Tulip - born on July 10 to first-time mother Sally, and Lily - born August 7 to Penny, are now on display on our African Savannah with the rest of the giraffe herd.

Forrest, our token male giraffe, is the father of both these new babies. He became a first-time father in October last year when Rosie gave birth to Skye.

As Skye nears one year of age, Australia Zoo’s breeding program continues to prove successful as we are hopeful Rosie is pregnant again. But when this little one is born, it won’t be such a “little” brother or sister for the new babies, as giraffes stand close to 2 metres at birth and walk around within the first hour of being born!

Australia Zoo’s giraffe pregnancies mark a successful breeding program. With only 80,000 giraffe left in the wild – these beautiful babies provide countless reasons for Australia Zoo to celebrate. Stay tuned for all the latest news on our growing giraffe family!
