Hobbit

Age: 10 years (DOB 30/11/1999)
Sex: Male
Hobbit is a gorgeous Australian Hobby Falcon also known as a Little Falcon. Hobby's resemble Peregrine Falcons; however they are much smaller and have darker plumage. They are one of Australia's smallest raptors at about 30 to 36 cm long. Hobbit is the only Hobby Falcon we have here at the Zoo. He was brought into care almost 11 years ago with serious damage to his right wing. We believe he is about 12 to 13 years old. Unfortunately he wasn't able to be released back to the wild due to his injury so he became part of the roving bird team here at Australia Zoo. Hobbit enjoys his daily roves throughout the Zoo and gets to meet lots of people on his adventures. He happily sits on the fist and loves having his photo taken with his handlers. He has a very gentle nature but can be quite reserved so it can take some time to build a bond up with him, but once you do, he makes a great friend. For a little raptor, he sure can make a lot of noise. We all know when he's hungry, happy or excited, frequently uttering a loud chatter or a shrill twitter when he wants some attention.
