Camel Browse
4 March 2005
Camels are browse eaters, so to give them as much natural food as possible, we have to go out every day and cut fresh browse. Teela and DJ are very fussy at times, not like the camels out in the wild that would eat whatever is available around them. Our girls favourite tree would have to be the umbrella tree, they get it as a treat maybe once a week, and you see them almost drooling over it as you bring it out. They usually eat all of it, but occasionally they will leave a half eaten stick.
Some other species we cut for them are fig, acacia and lychee. They get fed browse morning and night. Our girls have it easy, fresh browse brought to them, hand fed pellets from the public, and Teela gets heaps of pats and kisses daily.
What more could a camel ask for?
