That's the spot!
25 November 2005
Scratches; do you have a favourite spot where you enjoy a good scratch?Well here in our Kids' Zoo our animals all have a soft spot; a spot where they just can't resist a good scratch. And because our Kids' Zoo animals get to have pats all day, we tend to find out very quickly what makes them 'weak at the knees', so to speak.
Our adorable calves just love to get a good scratch under the chin, and the goats like a nice scratch between the horns, the lambs adore a scratch around the mouth and the piglets just can't resist a scratch on the belly.
But in saying that, there are some animals have their very own soft spot and as we bond with them and spend a lot more time with them, we find all the little special soft spots that only one particular animal likes. A bit like some of us being ticklish on the foot and some of us not being ticklish, these wonderful animals are much the same.
When you pat an animal it's almost like having another animal licking them, and it is a way of showing and receiving affection from one another. So when you pat an animal it responds just like a 'friend' showing affection and will return the gesture usually by licking,or in some instances they may even rub against you.
Next time your in Kids Zoo visiting our affectionate little friends, remember to give them a great big scratch and see if you can find their SOFT SPOT.
