New babies
30 November 2007
Kids Zoo has some new babies... just in time for Robert's 4th birthday this week! We've welcomed in five little woolly lambs and five lively kids - in total ten bundles of fun! It's always a busy time in the first week or so with new babies, settling them into life in Kids Zoo, establishing bottle feeding and their general day to day routine and of course getting to know their individual personalities, likes and dislikes. And then there's BATH TIME... this is when we literally see their TRUE colors emerging! One little "grey" lamb, after a thorough wash, shampoo and blow-dry, was transformed into a snow-white, fluffy "story-book" lamb. It never ceases to amaze us just how trusting these little animals are... they come into Kids Zoo - a totally different environment than they've known, lots of people and noise, all sorts of different people handling them, and then to top it all off they are put into a tub full of warm soapy water, scrubbed and blown dry with a hair drier... but they take it all in their stride. Even the little lambs that are naturally more timid than the goats actually seem to revel in the warm blow drying!
As they're such young animals, the new arrivals don't yet eat the farm food we sell to patrons to feed the Kids Zoo animals but that doesn't mean they get any less attention. The little goats already are spending a lot of time up at the front fence sitting or standing close enough that patrons can stroke and pat them, absolutely lapping up all the attention and love that comes their way.
Naming new babies is always a challenge, and this time seeing as sheep are environmentally friendly grass-cutters and whipper-snippers, we went with a grass cutting theme... so we have Victor, Mo, Wippy, Snippy and Grazie. As for the goats, they, for some unknown reason, have a beach name theme (maybe because it's the beginning of summer). Anyway their names are Bronte, Lennox, Coogee, Kirra and Belle.
So come on in and see all our new babies, they're absolutely adorable.
