Koala Island

7 January 2005

We have been busy here, in the Koala section, trying to get our refurbished Koala Island enclosure up and running. As it always happens with construction projects, the weather was not on our side, but after multiple tarps and covers, we managed to fight the rain and our slab could finally be laid and sealed.

Mulch was delivered and shipped in to the enclosure by a team of workers, and the important job of getting all the poles together and placed in an arrangement that would allow the koalas a lot of movement, and be aesthetically pleasing, was completed. Lateral poles were the next ingredient, and finally water pots for eucalyptus leaf to sit in to keep it fresh. Last, but certainly not least, came the koalas.

All of the Island's regular inhabitants had been visiting other enclosures whilst we were completing the refurbishment, and were very glad to return home. After an action packed Boxing Day morning we were ready again for business, and reopened our largest female koala enclosure just in time. Great work crew! The girls love it!
