Reptile eggs

A little over 2 months ago the Australian Wildlife Hospital was presented with some reptile eggs, after they were discovered on a construction site in the local area.

Immediately the eggs were put into an incubator in hope that the eggs are still healthy and the occupants are still alive. With movement within the eggs being noted in the previous couple of days, today we were suprised with a gorgeous little Lace Monitor poking its head out of the egg.

Lace Monitors are Australia's second largest lizard and grow up to and over 2m. They are a common species along the east coast of Australia, often being found in people's chook pens at home. With a varied diet of insects, reptiles, small mammals, birds and bird eggs, these 4 hatchling monitors will have no trouble on their own after we release them into their natural environment, the great Aussie bush.
