Midnight the Black-headed Python

31 March 2006

In this article I will be telling you about the Black-headed Python. This snake is uniquely Australian (found nowhere else in the world), and there are no prizes for guessing why it is called the Black-headed Python; they have a glossy black head that looks like they have been dipped in a can of black paint. They use this black head to help warm themselves by sticking their head out of hiding, into the sun, without having to expose their whole body to predators. The Zoo is home to four Black-headed Pythons: a pair named Darth and Midnight, and two juveniles named Akubra and Dusty. They are a great help to have in the SnakesLIVE show, with their wonderfully placid nature and awesome colours.
