Latest Addition to the Team
30 September 2005Hi, my name is Catherine and I'm the latest human addition to the Wandering Wildlife team!
It's very exciting to be on the 'roving team', and it's interesting to watch the reaction of people as they see us wandering about with the animals. I've had some wild stories from little ones telling me their animal tales, and I hope they keep coming.
My two favourite parts of the day would have to be seeing the wide eyes and smiles of everyone piling in the gates in the morning to be greeted by possums, birds, lizards, snakes, wombats and more. Then perhaps even more so at the end of the day when children are asleep in their prams, others deep in comtemplation and mums and dads are smiling and laughing as I hear them replay the day to each other. Knowing that the roving team is a huge part of that is great!
Apart from that, they have been keeping me busy here, and not a day goes by when I'm not learning something new. So far I have obtained licences (approval to handle) for Luca and Dewdrop (koalas), Shingle-back Skinks and Blue-tongue Lizards, and also have helped walk the wombats. I am currently working on getting my Corn Snake license.
It's impossible to look at Karma and say anything but "Awww". Shes the cutest thing since Tiny Teddies! And like anything cute, it goes hand in hand with being cheeky; she loves coming out to meet everyone and pose for photos. So next time you're at Australia Zoo, make sure to keep an eye out for the cutest and cheekiest possum, Karma, and your new human friend Catherine!
