New Enclosures for New Arrivals
28 September 2007
Rain, hail or shine, work has been carried out by both the Big Cat Team and Construction, to make sure Australia Zoo's newest arrivals feel at home.Australia Zoo welcomes its 3rd litter of tiger cubs this month, the first litter since 2003. With the Big Cat Team slowly expanding, so too is our compound and the enclosures in which the tigers spend a lot of their day.
We have constructed two new areas for the young cubs, the first of which was built in the front yard of the new cub house. This area will be used to introduce the tigers to the outside world. It will also be used for Cub Experiences, and give those patrons travelling on Steve's Safari Shuttle a chance to catch a glimpse of the little ones in action. The yard has a large bark pit at the front, filled with lots of different plants and trees so they can play around in and explore their new world. There is also a large grassy area so the cubs can run around on after toys or the handlers, or just find a comfy place in the shade to fall asleep.
The second enclosure that was built is a more on display enclosure than the cub yard. Located opposite the elephants, the Cub Display will give patrons opportunity to see the cubs doing what they do best - playing, eating and sleeping. Complete with large grassy play areas, big gardens for exploring, and a large wooden deck to fall asleep on, the Cub Display will suit our little ones perfectly.
A lot of fun and excitement is in store for our new cubs, so make sure you come on in and check them out!
