A new swimming pool on the way
31 March 2006
Welcome once again to our Elephant Department diaries! We are currently undergoing some major developments to our elephant facilities. Our first project is the construction of a swimming pool, which will allow our girls access to a huge body of water all day, and the opportunity for all our guests to enjoy this wonderful experience LIVE!
In the meantime, our girls are provided with a mud wallow and a jumbo-sized shower, which gives them the chance to cool off anytime they like. In addition to this, we give them access to a large dam located in one of the back paddocks, both in the mornings and late afternoons. (Very soon in our diaries, we will have some cool shots of their water activities for you all to see!)
Water is very important for elephants, as it assists in keeping their skin moisturised and allows the dirt and mud to stick better! So far the site has been cleared, and the foundations have been poured. Next will be the shaping of our pool surface. We are all excited and looking forward to its completion. We will keep you updated on its development. Talk to you next week!
