Tortoises on Holiday!

7 March 2008

Well, the construction crew are at it again!

We are currently making a few alterations to our Aldabran Tortoise enclosures down near the front of the Zoo. The crew have been busy digging and re-planting many of the mature palms and fig trees that were planted throughout the enclosures, as well as removing all the old turf and rock features. Once all the old fencing is removed the concretors and builders can come in and do what they do best - creating a mini paradise for our animals. The area around the enclosure is going to see the theme from the new admissions area carried on through all the way to the Crocoseum. It is also going to incorporate the new and larger tortoise enclosure for our special boys.

While all this work is going on we have re-located our four tortoises down to a newly created area on Madagascar Island. The tortoises and their new temporary home can be viewed from the end of the Tiger Temple display area. They are all currently enjoying their holiday in the tropics, and haven't stopped exploring all the new sites and views since we moved them over.

We look forward to giving you all the opportuntiy to see the tortoises and their new home by the easter weekend, so if you are coming in to visit the Zoo over easter make sure you drop by and say hi to them all!
