Reptile Expansions

29 May 2008

Well it is time to continue the reptile expansion at Australia Zoo again.
We are planning a variety of new enclosures to be seen at various locations around the Zoo. The one that excites us the most is our new Rhinoceros Iguana (Cyclura cornuta) enclosure to be built behind the retail shop at the admissions area of the Zoo.

We plan to have a double enclosure which will contain at least two or three of our Rhino Iguanas; giving them a chance to wow and impress the public like their fearless leader “Rhino” has done for many years!

It is going to be a glass fronted enclosure which will allow the public to see every part of the Rhino Iguana’s day to day life. Although they will also have a nice off display area at the back which will also contain their night quarters. This area will be themed into the enclosure and will contain all the necessary heating and lighting elements required to keep them in the lifestyle they are accustomed to!

We are also planning a number of other exhibits which will give you a chance to see our lovely Land Mullets (Egernia major), our endangered Yakka Skinks (Egernia rugosa) as well as a variety of other species of native Australian lizards.

So as next summer approaches and you come to visit the Zoo make sure you check out all the new enclosures around the Zoo!
