Elephants in the spotlight!
28 April 2006
The last few weeks have been abuzz with activity as thousands of people poured into the Zoo for the Easter period. Not only did Steve and Terri feed the crocodiles at the main show, but Bindi also had a new and exciting addition to the Crocosuem (a show featuring herself and a dance crew called the Crocmen). These shows proved to be a huge success and while Bindi was busy performing, the elephants also were preparing for a show of their own!
Before feeding the crocs, Steve first wanted to welcome into the Crocoseum the "biggest, most drop-dead gorgeous sheilas in the Zoo", as he so passionately puts it. So in came our three elephants, following each other into the Crocoseum, where a bucket of tasty fruit awaited them. This was a special and fantastic opportunity for our visitors to appreciate the size and intelligence of these animals, who were just by their presence playing the most important role of all; that is of educators.
We hope by bringing the elephants into the Crocoseum we can touch the hearts and minds of all our visitors and instill an urge to love, protect and respect elephants, therefore bringing us one step closer to our goal of conserving this species in the wild.
