Hairy Days!

30 December 2005

Lately, we Kids' Zoo keepers have been coming home a little... er, hairier than usual! But no, this has nothing to do with the full moon - it's the change of seasons that's getting hair all over the place! In particular, it's our goat population that are shedding, exchanging their thick winter coats for the sleek 'summer' look instead. And for us, that means a lot of brushing, and a lot of goat hair all over the place!

Often we might lift up one of our kids to get them over a fence, only to have them leave a layer of shed fur stuck to our shirts... which means we know we have to just brush them some more! Luckily for us, though, the goats love any excuse for a bit of attention, and so lap up every moment we give them, sometimes even trying to push each other out of the way to have a second or third turn at being brushed. Black and white Molly is a particular fan of this activity, and always gets comments from on-looking guests about what a lovely, well-behaved doe she is!

It won't be long before all the excess fur has been shed and brushed out, though, and all our goats will be ready for the summer holidays in their shiny, new-look coats.
