Our Bengal Tiger Cubs
7 December 2007
These guys sure are growing up fast! Charlie, Sunita and Mika have now been moved from the cub display to the on display with the adult Tigers. Through their slow introductory process the cats are now being rotated through the on and off display of the Tiger Compound.
Around 4kg when they arrived here at Australia Zoo, the cubs now weigh between 20kg-25kg. Bengal Tiger cubs put on over 1kg a week and can grow to 130kg - 200kg when they reach 4 years of age. All of our Tigers get weighed weekly as part of our health and checkup procedures. The Tigers weight records are very important; we work out their diet requirements from this and also monitor their behaviours based on their health. The cubs are still getting used to this part of their training; getting weighed!
They have a lot to live up to, I'm sure the adult Tigers will be great role models. We'll be sure to keep you updated on the cubs training progress, and next is guest experiences!
