Fun in the Rain
21 February 2007When it rains here at the zoo not only does it send most of the people running but a lot of the animals as well. However, one animal that does like the rain is the tortoise. Their enclosure turns from nice green grass to a big mud wallow, with the tortoises having the time of there life walking back and forth churning up the mud and what’s left of the grass in their enclosure. They have no regard for all the extra work that they cause us keepers. Every time we get decent rain, instead of helping the grass grow we have to re turf the whole enclosure. This has happened twice already this year. Next time you’re stuck inside with the rain have a think about how much fun the tortoises are having!
