Fun in the sun!
18 January 2008
The rain has gone, the sun is shining and it's getting pretty hot here at the Zoo. For the exotic animals of Australia Zoo, a hot summer means lots of fun in the water. Our gorgeous dingoes LOVE to swim! The girls are lucky enough to have a great big pond in their enclosure. Over the summer months the dingoes spend their days wrestling in the water, racing around their enclosure and jumping into the pond to cool off. The pond gets full of leaves so we are always taking off our shoes and socks and jumping into the pond with a scoop. Any excuse for some fun in the water with our girls. The dingoes get very excited when we join them. They love to bomb dive off the rocks to soak us through!
Occasionally we take our dingoes for a swim in the Crocoseum. This is very enriching and allows them to investigate the great smells of all the animals that are in the Crocoseum during the Wildlife Warriors 101 Live daily shows. The deep water is also great for us keepers to go for a descent swim with our gorgeous girls.
In the summer heat, Teela our Dromedary Camel gets a refreshing hose-off to help cool her down. We recently decided to take advantage of the lovely sunny weather and give her a good all-over shampoo. A lathered up camel isn't something you get to see everyday so we thought we'd share a photo of the occasion with you.
As a keeper one of our biggest joys is watching our animals enjoy themselves. It is a great privilege for us to interact with our animals in a hands-on environment.
