People to People
19 July 2007
Every year over the winter months, the zoo gets some very special visitors all the way from the United States of America. "People To People" is a program run through schools across the USA, in which children who have received high grades or made other high achievements are nominated by their teachers to come on an adventurous trip to Australia. Whilst on the trip, students learn all about Australian history and culture and while visiting the zoo they can get 'hands on' with some of our gorgeous Aussie icons. The koala department has the privilege of allowing all the People to People kids the opportunity of cuddling a snuggly koala. For each student, the cost of the trip is usually covered by fund raising, and some students will spend all year conducting fund raising activities just to make it out here.Congratulations to all students who participated in this years program, we all hope you had a great time at the zoo. And thanks to all the teachers and support staff who do a fantastic job at organizing the large groups coming through our koala photo sessions. Check out the photos of some of the Pennsylvania group having koala cuddles.
Cheers from everyone at the zoo, and we'll see you next year!
