Australia Zoo's Newest Additions
26 October 2007
Australia Zoo's brand new Bengal tiger cubs are fitting well in their new surroundings. Having come up from Mogo Zoo in NSW when they were 3 weeks of age, the cubs were facing a very busy few months of playing, learning, and growing. As part of the Big Cat Department's ongoing effort to raise much needed funds and awareness for tiger conservation, the right to name the cubs was put through as an auction. So far, two of the three cubs have been named, with Charlie chosen for our male cub, and Sunita for one of our females. We will hopefully have a name for the third cub by November, but until then, she is affectionately known by her nickname, 'Jinxy'.
The cubs are growing up fast, having gained approximately 10kg in the past 10 weeks and it won't be long before they are rubbing shoulders with the bigger cats in our facility.
The future looks bright for Australia Zoo's newest ambassadors for conservation.
