Camel Training

6 August 2004

There are many different types of training, and one of the types we are concentrating on with our camels at the moment is conditioning. This is basically getting the camels used to being touched and examined – touching them all over their bodies, looking in their ears and eyes, looking in their mouths, picking up their feet. We use food treats for rewarding good behaviour. By being able to do these things with our girls it allows us to keep a good eye on their condition, allows us to pick up on any injuries early, and also enables easier treatment to injuries should the need arise. On top of all this and most importantly, it is a stack of FUN! So next time you see us working around our camels – you will know what we are doing, and why we are doing it!
