Name A Koala Competition

20 August 2004

A big thanks to all those who helped us raise funds for the koala hospital by entering the Name a Koala Joey competition we ran in July that was inspired by National Save the Koala Month. We are patiently awaiting the emergence of our next koala; joey so that a suitable name can be chosen and the winner announced. Support for the hospital was outstanding, with over 200 entries over the four competition days. The funds raised from your donations will be well utilised (check out the web page to see how!). The hospital is getting increasingly busy, with many of last season's joeys moving away from their mums and this year's breeding season about to begin. It is at this time of year the koalas are a little more active. Young males are searching for a territory and older males are searching for girls to spend time with. Unfortunately, this increased activity leads to more frequent clashes between koalas and cars, as well as koalas and dogs. In either case, it is the koala that comes off second best.

If you missed out on participating in the competition you can still show your support for the koala hospital by joining one of our behind-the-scenes Koala Hospital tours. These tours give visitors the opportunity to take a closer look at what goes on in a functional wildlife rehabilitation facility.

Once again, a big thanks from the Koala team, the hospital and all of their patients for your help.
