New Arrivals To The Reptile Department

It was a very exciting week for us this week because we had some very exciting new arrivals; four hatchling Merten's Water Monitors arrived. They are all captive bred and came to us from another facility in far north Queensland. Ranging in weight from 27g to 32g and all about 10cm long, these guys are still very small and cute. Specialising in aquatic environments these guys love to eat fish but by far their favourite is usually crayfish. Due to their size it will be a little while before we can try these guys on that food item however if past experience is anything to go by they will grow extremely quickly maxing out at around 1-1.2m. Otherwise it has been the usual hectic nature of the warmer weather – plenty of feeding and cleaning to keep us busy!
