Peppe And Flip Are Really Enjoying Themselves

1 April 2005

Happy Easter everybody! I hope you all had joyous celebrations and didn't over indulge on the chocolate front. Easter here at the Zoo was certainly a great day out for all of our guests. A huge Easter egg hunt, plenty of exciting animal shows and lots of other fun for the kiddies (young and old) was had.

The birds all certainly put on great show. Peppe, the Green-winged Macaw, is finally learning how to use his wings. You may remember that he had a full set of flight feathers repaired almost 10 months ago now and it has taken him this whole entire time to become accustomed to how they work. Even though he still has a long way to go before he catches up to the skill level of the other macaws, he has certainly improved a great deal.

Another bird who is thoroughly enjoying himself at the moment is Flip. He is having fun for a reason only he can understand. You see, the nights are starting to cool off now and all of the birds are starting to huddle up at night to keep warm. Flip has the extra chance each day to warm himself up because he gets to go for a swim in his own heated spa. That's right, the Crocoseum ponds are heated for the crocodiles and it is really difficult to convince Flip to come out of the water, which is kept at a very cosy 30 degrees. He absolutely loves it!

The young lorikeets are going great guns and I will introduce you to them in the up and coming weeks. They have already got their names which fit in to the Sesame Street theme, Kermit and Ernie. It won’t be long until they join the others, Cookie, Grover, Oscar, Elmo, Roudy and Junior. We'll be sure to keep you posted!
