Come And Meet Our Cormorants

7 January 2005

Bossy, blue-eyed, Little Black Cormorants... these little beauties have turned up in the wetlands exhibit and have made themselves right at home. They are quite enjoying the smorgasboard of fish on offer at feeding time. These three blokes have what seems to be an endless pit for a stomach, and this has worked in our favour. They are trusting little fellas and the bird team have actually given them each a name: there is B.A.Baracus, after Mr.T of A-Team fame, Brutus and Skinnyhead! They are actually putting on quite a show for our visitors.

Someone else who has 'dropped in' and quite likes the neighbourhood is "Godzilla", a young male Water Dragon. This bloke loves a free feed too and is often at the front of the line, come tucker time. We are sure he has 'hollow legs' because he has got to be putting his food somewhere else besides his belly!

Can you believe how fast last year flew by! We would like to wish everyone a hunky dory new year and all the best. We are all fired up and are ready for another huge, fulfilling and exciting year ahead. We have a list as long as our arm of ideas and jobs that we would like to achieve. As the year unfolds, we will keep you posted and up to date on with the goings on of the Zoo Bird Crew, as well as our bird friends.

The first job we would like to cross off the list, pin our ears back and get stuck into, is the improvement of our current signage within our exhibits. First off the rank is the Rainforest Aviary. In the near future we hope we will be showing off, brand spankin' new identification signs in our walk through aviary. We hope these will help our visitors to identify and tell who is who among our feathered friends.
