Sprucing up for spring

26 May 2006

G’day and welcome to another week in the Birds Department! That time of year is upon us again, when the preparations for spring begin. All of our enclosures are undergoing a face lift. The enclosures are getting tidied up, new plants put in and new features added.

Preparations are being made for our breeding birds. Two such couples are Rocky and Stomp and Beepa and Babinda. These guys are all being slowly introduced to each other in the hope that by the time breeding season comes around they will all be well acquainted. If we don’t let them get to know one another there is every change that they may not get along, and this could cause a few dramas for our keeping team. To help with these preparations we have adjusted their diets by giving them a few extra enrichment items and we are constantly monitoring their moods to make sure they are as comfortable as possible. So hopefully in a few months we may have some little ones to add to our ever-expanding bird team. Until next week, birds RULE!
