Goodbye to a special old lady
30 June 2006
It has been an extremely tough week for the reptile crew, as we say goodbye to a very special member of the Zoo. Harriet, our Giant Galapagos Land Tortoise, passed away peacefully on Friday morning due to heart failure. Harriet was 175 years old.
Trying to find the words to sum up Harriet is impossible; she was far more than remarkable, unique and precious. Harriets had the sweetest, most affectionate nature and there will only ever be one Harriet. The most important thing for us to remember is how lucky we are to have known her!
Harriet was loved by so many, visited by millions and known all over the world. Her history will be remembered and spoken about until the end of time. But most importantly, those who were lucky enough to know her will tell the stories of her unmatchable personality for the rest of their lives.
Goodbye Harriet, we will miss you enormously but will be forever grateful to have known you…
Please check out our tribute to Harriet on the Australia Zoo home page.
