More rain, More Territory

During the past week we have had non stop rain with a very chilly breeze to go along with that making the days very cold. Even though it is raining heavily we still had to attend work and carry out normal activities through out the days which include removing debris from flood gates, constantly raking within the enclosures, cleaning out filter baskets and scooping the ponds. We have to make sure we keep on top of these jobs during this type of whether as the flood gates build up with debris and the croc enclosure fences could give way with all the pressure. So its our job to make sure this does not happen.This whether is not all about a change in keeper jobs but also with the crocodiles. Crocodiles go into an aggressive state when it is raining because the water level starts to rise and flood the enclosure, this means for more water to swim in and protect. We have been taking extreme care when moving in and around the croc enclosure. Even when moving in between fences they will still have a crack at us if they got the chance. This is also how they would act out in the wild taking advantage of optimal situations.
