What a Day!
22 November 2007
As we all know, Thursday the 15th of November was Steve Irwin Day, the biggest day to hit Australia Zoo yet, and everyone was in on the celebrations. Certainly, our dingoes were making the most of every opportunity to check out all the exciting things going on, and going for our daily walks around the zoo was like a brand new adventure at every turn! One of the biggest highlights for our gorgeous girls was running amuck in the surf lifesaving display, complete with wading pools, beach balls and beautiful crystalline sand... what more could a dingo want? Teyha in particular was out to prove she was a true beach girl, digging in the sand for all she was worth, and even convincing the more laid-back Mia to pretend to have a surf with her! After their little surfing adventure, though, Mia was keen to show off her contribution to the day, over at the animal art stand! All sorts of animals created special paintings to raise money on the day, and Mia is a bit of an old hand when it comes to painting. But for Steve Irwin Day, she was part of something a little more special... Mia had leant her stunning looks to pose as a model for a portrait painted by one of her doting keepers, and then added her own paw-prints to the piece for that extra-special touch! This particular painting was raffled off over the course of the day, and managed to raise quite a bundle of cash to go back to Wildlife Warriors conservation efforts. The winner of the painting sure was thrilled to have such an unusual piece to take home, as a wonderful memento of an outstanding day... and Mia (and her keepers!) were very proud to have been able to offer their contribution.
Kiah and Myndee, in the meantime, got to conclude their day's adventures by chilling out with some VIP's in the shade of our lush gardens. They were more than keen to show off true dingo style, kicking back so calmly and coolly it was hard not to be envious of their relaxed and carefree attitudes!
From all the critters and keepers in the exotic mammals section here at Australia Zoo, we hope those of you who came in for the day had as much fun as we all did! And for those of you who couldn't make it... well, we'll look forward to seeing you next time 'round, bigger and better than ever! Wooo-Hoo!
