Rex - born to be King!

24 August 2007

Rejected by his own mother at birth, Rex had to find a surrogate mother amongst all the goats back on the farm. He found a Nanny-goat with twins, and plenty of milk, and Rex would wait until the twins had finished drinking and gone off to play and then he would take his turn at the udder...

Rex came to Kids Zoo with a pair of Toggenburg kids. All three kids were three weeks old but tiny Rex was only half their size. The size factor didn't deter Rex from the challenge of wanting to become the dominant goat in the group and with his large sized personality he gave the challenge his best shot but ultimately one small goat against two much larger boys, just wasn’t going to be. Trying to sleep, or even just stand for a little while, on the top of the pet pack, the most sought after, highest spot in the pen was a constant battle with much head butting and tumbles along the way...

Then along came a great opportunity with the arrival of four more baby goats, all younger than Rex, all girls and of similar size. The Toggenburg brothers moved up to another pen to make room for the new girls. Lucky for Rex, as the new girls were younger they weren't so street smart in the ways of the goat world and hierarchy issues, and as Rex was just with the new girls he now had the opportunity to rise to supremacy.

So with lots of energetic leaping and jumping, head-butting and sidestepping Rex HAS in fact claimed the throne... the "pet-pack platform". It's his, all his, whenever he wants it and from this point he can look down and survey his kingdom, watching over his girls who are happy to look up at him and play leaping games whenever he wants!
Rex Rules!
