Our Cheetahs' new home
26 January 2007
The time has come and the Australia Zoo construction crew has started building our new Cheetah off-display enclosure. The crew did a great job finishing Elephantasia, have come back after a well deserved break and are all geared up to construct our specialised Cheetah facility. If we treat the crew really nice and bring them cold drinks on hot days, they may have it built within the next 3 months. Our facility will have the ability to house up to 12 Cheetah, giving us flexibility with our future breeding program. The facility will have 12 night dens which have indoor and outdoor access, 4 off-display enclosures and an 80m long exercise area with a lure. We feel this new set up will be suitable for breeding Cheetah, raising cubs, personal guest experiences and a great lifestyle tailored to the individual cats needs. But it’s not just the Cheetah section that gets all the glory here. So do the Tigers! Once we move into our new facility, they will have our old Cheetah enclosure as another off-display zone for the Tigers.
Our future plans for an on display Cheetah enclosure will include a lure system. We plan to continue our daily walks in the Zoo with the Cheetah until our on display enclosure is built. We will be sure to keep you updated on the progress of our Cheetah facility.
