Pruning Suprises!
23 May 2008
Check out the work the boys have been doing in the freshies! Last time we told you about the pruning work we are doing with our Burgundy stemmed paddle boat plants, well work is well underway! On Saturday Tom, Jack, Big Richard and B-rough went hell for leather and gave two of the plants a big prune back. This was a great time for Tom and Richard to see what other animals are living in the crocodile enclosures. We found that these plants are a great habitat for many different species.
James and Jack watched Old Mr. Freshie and his girl Blondie to make sure they didn’t come and help with any tidying up in their enclosure.
With the expertise of the knowledgeable Richie, we were able to identify many different types of frogs, water dragons and stacks of creepy crawlies such as Praying Mantis, leeches, water scorpions and heaps of spiders.
But to our surprise, Big Richard is not so big after all. We discovered this when Richard’s high pitched squeals echoed through Zoo after finding a small, but harmless spider on his back!
Check out the pictures of Tom in action and some of the animals we found!
Until next time, other animals in our enclosures, pruning and CROCS RULE here at Australia Zoo!
