Australia Zoo's resident supermodel, Chip the koala, has graced the cover of Harper's BAZAAR Australia this month alongside Victoria's Secret supermodel Shanina Shaik.
The 15 month-old koala made her modelling debut in the April issue of BAZAAR Australia when it went on sale this week. With her soft grey fur and ‘90s supermodel attitude - ensuring she gets 20 hours of beauty sleep a day - Australia Zoo just knew Chip would be a star!
The Harper's BAZAAR crew understood all too well that in typical model fashion, they'd have to go to Chip, so with suitcases of designer clothing and a sense of adventure they flew up to Australia Zoo on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
After several test shots with a toy koala, little Chip was ready, snuggling into Shanina and pulling that adorable face with ease to secure the perfect cover shot. However, we think she had such good taste that she simply did not want to let go of the Gucci dress - taking her time to cuddle into Shanina before she was ready to take another nap.
Chip's modelling debut not only showcases the amazing wildlife at Australia Zoo, but draws attention to the importance of protecting Australian wildlife for future generations. The Harper's BAZAAR shoot also showcased Australia Zoo's grey kangaroos and a beautiful woma python, as well as some of the Australia Zoo staff too!
Australia Zoo keeper Olivia Degn who joined Chip on the shoot and was profiled in BAZAAR said that Shanina was a "natural" with the animals.
"We had a lot of fun on the shoot and Shanina was so natural with Chip, and I mean who doesn't love a koala cuddle," Ms Degn said.
While Chip is not quite ready to join guests on encounters and in the photo studio, this was great practice for her. You can expect to see a lot more of her in the future, watch this space!
